Dunst, Fanning for Bell Jar; Robbie for Bad Monkeys

Dakota Fanning is set to star in a new film adaptation of the acclaimed novel “The Bell Jar”.

Actress Kirsten Dunst will make her directorial debut on the project, which the “Spider-Man” actress has co-written with Nellie Kim.

Fanning will play Esther Greenwood, a young woman who, after interning at a magazine in New York City, returns home to Boston suffering from mental illness.

Meanwhile, Margot Robbie (“Suicide Squad”) will star in the psychological thriller “Bad Monkeys”, based on Matt Ruff’s novel, being adapted as a feature by Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark.

Robbie will also be a producer on the project.

The 2007 novel centers on Jane Charlotte, who has been arrested for murder. She says she’s a member of a secret organization devoted to fighting evil and that she’s working with the Department for the Final Disposition of Irredeemable Persons — aka “Bad Monkeys.” Her confession lands her in the jail’s psychiatric wing and earns her countless hours of poking, probing, and questioning by a professional. Is Jane crazy or lying? Or is she playing a whole different game altogether?
