Ed Burns for Katherine Heigl

Don’t we all

Ed Burns will take a break from wearing several hats at once – writer, director, producer, and actor – for a change, accepting a performance-only turn in the new Anne Fletcher comedy “27 Dresses”, according to Variety.

The film will also star Katherine Heigl (“Grey’s Anatomy”), James Marsden and Malin Akerman.

In the Fox 2000 pic, which starts shooting this Summer, Heigl plays a perennial bridesmaid who, after planning many weddings for friends, is drafted by her sister, who’s marrying the man with whom the bridesmaid is in love. Burns plays the groom.

This is one of several ‘acting only’ gigs that Burns’ has accepted of late. He recently shot “One Missed Call,” the Warner Bros. remake of the Japanese horror film “Chakushin Ari.”

His latest directorial effort, “Purple Violets,” premiered this week at the Tribeca Film Festival.
