James Newton Howard to Score The Hunger Games

Well, so much for that. If you were looking forward to Danny Elfman scoring the tracks to “The Hunger Games” film, maybe it’ll only happen in your dreams because Variety is reporting that Elfman has left the project due to scheduling conflicts and “The Dark Knight” composer James Newton Howard has stepped in to take over.

It was back in June when Elfman was announced as the film’s composer along with T Bone Burnett collaborating with Elfman.

A source close to the situation indicated that the transition will be seamless and the post production schedule won’t be impacted.

Elfman is currently completing work on Sony’s “Men in Black III” and Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” for Warner Bros. Howard’s credits include “The Dark Knight,” “Defiance,” “Blood Diamond” and “Michael Clayton.”

“The Hunger Games” stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson. Gary Ross is the director and the film will be released on March 23, 2012.
