Jason Dohring on the possibility of a Veronica Mars movie

Besides “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer”, there’s another ex-CW show that many have championed a feature film of over the past few years. “Veronica Mars”, created by Rob Thomas, was a deliciously witty and wonderfully written teen-detective dramedy starring the adorable Kristen Bell as a student snoop who always gets her guy… man, woman.. whoever is guilty of… whatever.

The show might only have lasted three seasons (a fourth, for which a promo trailer was shot, would’ve seen Veronica join the FBI) but the fans are still out there in force, trying to drum up interest in a “Veronica Mars” movie. But Warner Bros has been the hold-up, they own the rights… and they’re not interested.

Moviehole recently spoke to actor Jason Dohring, who played ‘Logan’ on the series, to see whether he’s heard anything new on the “Mars” movie front.

“You know, I’ve been asked a lot of questions concerning this. The truth is, the only chance we ever had of making a “continuation” project, such as this, came from the whole-hearted support of our fan base. Perhaps with continued support, enough weight can be pulled in our direction to finally pull it off.”

And he’s dead-on right, especially considering Warner Bros won’t even allow series star Kristen Bell to ‘pay’ for the movie herself. Where’s the risk then? What if someone offers to cover the marketing budget, too!?

The “Hit and Run” actress recently told Vulture that she’s offered to finance the movie for Warner Bros and yet they still won’t balk. Weird.

“Everyone involved wants to do it, but Warner Bros. is a real stinker,” Bell said. “It’s a real monster of a legal system there.”

Considering everyone involved in the show, particularly creator Thomas, is gung-ho to get the movie done it’ll be a real shame for Warner Bros to let this one fall by the wayside – particularly if someone else is willing to pay for it!

Never give up hope, fans!
