Katie Holmes returns to the horror genre

Katie Holmes is set to star in a sequel to “The Boy” for STX Films and Lakeshore Entertainment.

William Brent Bell returns to direct the sequel to the film, which kicks off its shoot January 14 in Victoria, British Columbia.

The “Ray Donovan” actress plays the matriarch of a young family, unaware of the terrifying history of the estate into which they move, where their young son soon makes an unsettling new friend, an eerily life-like doll he calls Brahms.

Stacey Menear, who penned the original film – a $15 million dollar film that pocketed $68 million worldwide – returns to script.

Holmes’ genre credits include Kevin Williamson’s “Teaching Miss Tingle”, 1999 sci-fi horror “Disturbing Behaviour” and “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”.
