Kevin Hart for Uptown Saturday Night remake

The long-gestating remake of 1974 comedy “Uptown Saturday Night” looks to be pushing forward with Kevin Hart.

The “Jumanji : Welcome to the Jungle” star is in negotiations to star in a film once reserved for Will Smith and Denzel Washington. Schedules forced the duo off the project in an acting capacity, though Smith remains onboard as a producer.

Smith’s Overbook Entertainment produces with Warner Bros. The producers are now on the hunt for a director before they lock in a co-lead, says Variety.

The original pic starred Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby and followed two friends who sneak out to visit a high-class but illegal club and trouble ensues.
