Machete Kills

“Machete Kills” brings the badass character of Machete (Danny Trejo) back to the big screen, and revels in the absurdity and exploitation of it all.

Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete Kills” follows Machete Cortez (Danny Trejo) out to Mexico on a mission for the President (Charlie Sheen) to take out madcap Mendez (Demian Bichir) who plans to blow up Washington with a missile. After learning Mendez has an internal clock for the explosive attached to his heart, Machete has no choice but to spare his life and take him back to the arms manufacturer, Luther Voz (Mel Gibson) which unravels an even larger plot to destroy earth! GASP!

What ensues is exactly what you’d expect from the sequel of Rodriguez’s 2010 “Machete,” exploitation to greater heights. Expect bullets to fly and gore galore with a splash of sex appeal. It’s something his fans will appreciate, along with kickass Michelle Rodriguez, reprising her role as Luz (I’m still sure I could live out a beautiful existence with Michelle Rodriguez in her taco cart). There are some scenes that slow-down Rodriguez’s trip of ridiculous insanity, but not often or noticeable enough to deter the die-hards.

Admittedly, this isn’t my cup of tea, I like the flavor of exploitation but I don’t like drowning in it to the point where I feel it’s crossed over to vapid. BUT, I can, to some degree, understand why it is for others. So, enjoy, you devoted Rodriguez fans, he won’t disappoint you.

And…if you just can’t get enough, don’t worry; Rodriguez will be rounding out the series with “Machete Kills Again…In Space!”
(And whatever my opinion of the movie, you have to love those trailers).
