Michael Bay promises three new Transformers movies

“Transformers” is not only back for a fourth movie, but a whole new trilogy is in the works, according to director Michael Bay.

Bay told Entertainment Weekly that the upcoming “Transformers: Age of Extinction” will become the first in a set of three new Transformers films.

“It’s kind of like a new Transformers,” Bay said. “We had three, the first trilogy, and this is going to be the next one… it’s the first of a new trilogy. I’m not necessarily sure that I’m doing [the others], but that’s what it’s meant for.”

Bay sees “Transformers: Age of Extinction” not as a “Transformers 4” perse, but as somewhat of a reboot for the franchise, the upcoming film acting to set up the following two.

Mark Wahlberg comes in as the star of the franchise, replacing previous star Shia LaBeouf. Wahlberg will be joined by Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Kelsey Grammar, Stanley Tucci and T.J. Miller.

The new films will also include new dinobots – Cybertronian warriors that transform into T-Rex-style brawlers.

“Transformers: Age of Extinction” will hit cinemas on June 27.
