New Avengers & Monsters series in the works

Shane Black and Fred Dekker, the dynamic duo behind this year’s “The Predator”, are reuniting on a TV pilot based on the classic ’60s offering “The Avengers”.

The twosome had penned a western, “Edge”, that didn’t go to series at Amazon. The streamer was still keen on working with them on something though and Dekker confirms it’s a reboot of “The Avengers” that they came up with.

“It’s ‘The Avengers,’ with John Steed and Emma Peel. We’re setting it in Britain in the 60’s, and our approach is ‘The Ipcress File’ meets ‘Doctor Who.’ At this moment, it’s my favorite thing we’re working on.”

The last incarnation of the series – which ran from 1961 to 1969 – was Warner Bros’ big-budget feature of the same name, with Ralph Fiennes, Uma Thurman and Sean Connery starring.

A TV series based on Gareth Edwards’ “Monsters” is in the works for UK broadcaster Channel 4.

Ronan Bennett (“Top Boy”) serves as showrunner on the series with up-and-coming British writers Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith writing.

It is currently in development with Channel 4 in the UK, via head of international drama Simon Maxwell, and the producers are looking to secure a major U.S. partner and is in talks with broadcasters and SVOD services including Netflix and Amazon. C4 hopes that the big-budget drama will follow a similar path as its Philip K. Dick adaptation Electric Dreams, which is set to launch on Amazon, and Kudos sci-fi thriller Humans, which is a co-pro with AMC.

Edwards is likely to be involved behind the scenes with his full involvement determined when the project has been fully greenlit
