Reese Witherspoon is out, and Anne Hathaway (pictured) is in on “The Intern”, the Nancy Meyers-directed comedy about the owner of an internet company who gets assigned an intern who is a retiree (De Niro). Witherspoon, who was involved in the project when it was selling at AFM, left the project last month over a scheduling clash. Hathaway did a table read with De Niro and Meyers last week. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has announced that they have taken all rights in international English-speaking territories, Latin America and other key European territories to the film “The End of the Tour”, which stars Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg and is directed by James Ponsoldt (“The Spectacular Now”). The script was penned by playwright Donald Margulies, who adapted David Lipsky’s book Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip With David Foster Wallace. Jesse Eisenberg stars as Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky, who accompanied Wallace on the tour. Along the way, jealousy and competition emerge between the two writers as they discuss women, depression and the pros and cons of fame. (Deadline)
Rob Riggle (“21 Jump Street”) has joined the cast of the new Rob Lowe sitcom “The Pro”. Riggle plays Lowe’s former tennis doubles partner who is now the head pro, much to the chargin of former champ Lowe. (Deadline)
“Nikita” star and “Mission : Impossible III” co-star Maggie Q is set to play “Ching Shih, a beautiful young Chinese prostitute who goes on to become one of history’s most powerful pirates and head of the most successful crime syndicate in China” in a limited series. (Deadline)
