At last we have the answer to that age old “How on earth did Disney get Harrison Ford to agree to do another Star Wars?” question!
Lucasfilm and Disney today announced that the long-awaited apology for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is on the table, like a round of monkey brains, ready to go. Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg will go it without George Lucas this time.
In previous films, Ford’s plucky archaeologist has hunted such gems as the Ark of the covenant, the nether regions of Spielberg’s missus, the Holy Grail and an all-CGI backdrop. The Mcguffin for the new story hasn’t been announced, though there’s a good chance it’ll fix on Indy searching for Shia LaBeouf’s remaining dignity or Ford’s own bearings, considering how many times a week he seems to nosedive that plane of his.
The untitled film, directed by series staple Spielberg and produced by series vets Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, will vine-swing into theaters July 19, 2019.
“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”
While there’s no word whether Ford will be sharing the screen with another younger equally A-list actor this time around, there’s a good possibility of that considering the “Force Awakens” actor will be 77 when the film hits theaters. If the idea is for Ford’s Indy to bookend the movie, appearing only intermittently, then Disney need get Anthony Gruber to play young Indy for the other chapters. Make it so.
