Seann William Scott, best known for his role in the “American Pie” series, has joined FOX’s “Lethal Weapon” – just in time to see the action series renewed for a third season.
Scott, seen recently in “Super Troopers 2” and “Goon : Last of the Enforcers”, will play a new character (rumored to be Martin Riggs’ brother) on the hour actioner. The 41-year-old actor replaces Clayne Crawford, who has been ousted from the series following complaints of his on-set behavior.
“Lethal Weapon” does well for Fox – averaging a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 in Live+7 – so it was a given the show would be renewed… if they could quickly find a new co-lead. And act quickly they did – Scott was sworn in after meeting with co-star Damon Wayans on the weekend.

“Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast,” said Michael Thorn, president of entertainment of Fox Broadcasting. “’Lethal Weapon’ is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can’t wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen. Matt Miller, his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we’re thrilled to bring this show back for another season.”
Crawford, and his co-stars, have been pretty vocal on Twitter about the actor’s exit.
It’s hard to stand up in this business, Thank You! #family #integrity https://t.co/nzWrwOq2nR

I had the pleasure of working with @ClayneCrawford briefly on #LethalWeaponFox. Dude was a stand up guy. Warm, welcoming and when I got cut during some rough action during a scene, he was the one who dashed off to grab me a bandaid. #classact #southerngentleman

One of the best experiences I have had was doing Lethal Weapon. Everyone in the cast and crew as awesome, but it was @ClayneCrawford that made it really special for me. I cant wait until we can work together again! pic.twitter.com/JtQ4dUMqW9

For many, there is no “Lethal Weapon” without Clayne Crawford – and fair enough, the guy was damn good in it! – and the actor’s many followers took to Twitter to voice their disgust on his axing.
With all due respect to the rest of the cast – let’s be real here….people tuned in for the Riggs character. No Clayne Crawford as Riggs, no viewers. Period.

Well @FOXTV you've lost a lot of fans. If you think Lethal Weapon was on the bubble before it won't survive another half season with the ratings you'll get by adding a comedic actor to replace @ClayneCrawford sorry. Kiss your show goodbye.

Welp, I predict a cancellation after the first couple of episodes utterly tank. This was the DUMBEST goddamn decision anyone could have made. No #ClayneCrawford, no #LethalWeapon. But, hey, at least Diva Damon can't be upstaged now.

With all due respect to the cast and crew, it simply will not be Lethal Weapon with Riggs @ClayneCrawford WAS the Lethal Weapon of the story
