An amalgamation of various film & news rumors/news

First up, there won’t be a Mailbag today… it’s just been too busy of a week…. But like Eddie Murphy and that Oscar, good things are worth waiting for. (And if you don’t agree, you can just walk out right now – just as Eddie did).

From the trades (Variety, The Hollywood Reporter)

– James Caan and Nikki Cox have left TVs “Las Vegas”. Caan has left to return to movies, whilst Cox was forced to leave due to budget cuts.
– Darren Lynn Bousman (“Saw 3”) is remaking David Cronenberg’s “Scanners”.
– Michelle Monaghan has signed on to play the female lead in the new Patrick Dempsey romantic comedy “Made of Honor”.
– Alan Arkin will re-team with his “Little Miss Sunshine” co-star Steve Carell for the big screen “Get Smart”. Arkin will play ‘The Chief’ of CONTROL.
– Robert Downey Jr and Jay Baruchel will star in the new Ben Stiller-penned comedy “Tropic Thunder”. It sounds like Downey Jr is now playing the role that Stiller himself planned to play.
– Martin Scorsese will work with his “Departed” writer William Monahan again on “The Long Play”, which follows two friends through 40 years in the music business, from the early days of R&B to contemporary hip-hop.
– Leonardo Di Caprio will star in an English-language remake of “Confessions of Pain”, which follows two close friends, one a police detective and the other a private detective, who team to investigate the murder of the cop’s father-in-law. As the investigation proceeds, they uncover evidence that shows that nothing is as it appears.
