Weaver resurrected for Avatar sequels

James Cameron and 20th Century Fox have announced that Sigourney Weaver will return for Cameron’s “Avatar” sequels.

But wait, her character died at the end of the first film right?!?

“[Weaver’s] character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she’s playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films,” said Cameron, who did not divulge what role that would be.

“Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made ‘Aliens,’” he said. “We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the Avatar sequels.”

“We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration.”

Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Stephen Lang will be back to reprise their roles from the 2009 original film which grossed a whopping $2.78 billion worldwide making it the highest-grossing film ever.

Cameron has previously announced that he expects the films to released in December 2016, December 2017 and December 2018 following back-to-back filming of the three pics in New Zealand.

Josh Friedman (“War of the Worlds”), Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (“Rise of the Planets of the Apes”), and Shane Salerno (“Savages”) will pen the scripts.

Cameron will produce with Jon Landau through their Lightstorm Entertainment.
