Warner Bros’ “Willy Wonka” remake looks to attain the services of up-and-coming Brit director Paul King.
King, director of the “Paddington” movies, is ins final negotiations to direct the reimagining of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book ”Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.
The film would reunite King with David Heyman, producer of the “Paddington” franchise.
The new film, to be penned by Simon Rich, is the third in a series of big screen film adaptations of the classic novel. The first film, released in 1971, starred George Wilder as the eccentric Wonka, with Johnny Depp taking over the role in the 2005 take.
“Willy Wonka” is merely one of several new takes on classic Dahl properties that Warner have in development. Another, “The Witches”, boasts a script by Guillermo del Toro and has sparked the interest of filmmaker Robert Zemeckis.
