Another Shrek on the way!

Now that it’s the proud owner of a shiny new Dreamworks Entertainment (which set them back a slick $3.8 billion!), NBC Universal plans to resurrect the shingle’s most famous family franchise : “Shrek”.

According to Deadline, plans are afoot to pump out four new Dreamworks films per year – that’s two more a year than previous years.

Illumination Entertainment have been commissioned to help Dreamworks crack the story of “Shrek 5” and the other franchises it plans to resurrect from the Dreamworks stable.

No word on what form the new film will take – will it be a complete reboot? will it be a sequel to the previous films? maybe another spin-off, like ‘Puss in Boots’? – but it’d be very surprising if Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas aren’t involved in some capacity.

Other brands under the DreamWorks banner that might see the light of day again – we’re just assuming here – could be “Antz”, “Chicken Run”, “Bee Movie”, “Flushed Away”, “Over the Hedge”, “Mouse Hunt” and “The Cat in the Hat”.

The Independence Day sequel idea that was ultimately scrapped!
