Alfonso Cuaron has responded to rumours that he may be attached to direct the Harry Potter spinoff “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, declaring that he will not take on the role.
Global Post brings word from Cuaron himself, who was speculated to helm the spinoff following his directorial role on “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”.
“It was a very beautiful experience for me. I have a lot of love for that universe and I tremendously admire J.K. Rowling, but today, for the present, projects based around lots of visual effects don’t attract me,” Cuaron said. “I’m coming out of a five-year process of doing visual effects and now I sort of want to clean my palate of that a little bit.”
In fact the Oscar winning filmmaker says he has no plans to make any films over the coming months, opting instead to spend time with his family.
“Now, I’m once again connecting with life,” said Cuaron. “I have no plans of any kind.”
It has also been suggested that the director will take on a prequel to “The Shining”, however Cuaron told Global Post the he wasn’t aware of any news surrounding his possible involvement, despite being a “big fan” of the original film.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, the first film in a planned trilogy, is currently in the pre-production stage and will follow Newt Scamander, a wizard living in New York seven decades before Harry Potter’s story began.
