Axel Foley will be back March 25, 2016!

It’s happening! The Heat is defintiely back on this time.

After several false starts (largely due to script issues), the fourth “Beverly Hills Cop” is a lock for a March 25, 2016 release.

Eddie Murphy will star – as opposed to the canned TV pilot in which he would’ve only guest-starred (Brandon T.Jackson had the lead role as Axel’s son in the pilot) – once again as Detroit police officer Axel Foley.

Brett Ratner, who worked with Murphy on “Tower Heist”, is directing; Jerry Bruckheimer is producing.

Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, who breathed new life into the “Mission : Impossible” franchise, are writing the screenplay. In their story, Axel returns to his roots in Detroit (though obviously considering the title – there’s going to be some Beverly Hills palm action in there somewhere).

Ratner had said previously that he’s determined for the new film to retain the ‘R’ rating – in other words, Axel will be shouting his potty-mouth off again – of the 1984 original.

While Judge Reinhold reprised his role as Foley’s friend and colleague Billy Rosewood in the CBS “Beverly Hills Cop” pilot, there’s no word yet on whether he’ll be back in the role for the new film.

The title of the new film is simply “Beverly Hills Cop” – but that may change.
