Breaking : Spartacus star Andy Whitfield dead at 39

Horrible news this morning, folks – Australian actor Andy Whitfield, who shot to fame as the title character in Starz’ “Spartacus” series, has died from non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Whitfield passed away in his native Sydney on Sunday.

Whitfield, who was diagnosed with the illness 18 months ago (just as he was preparing for the second season of “Spartacus”), was “beautiful young warrior”, wife Vashti said in a statement, who died on a “sunny Sydney morning” in the “arms of his loving wife”.

“Spartacus : Blood and Sand” EP and creator Steven DeKnight said via Twitter : “No words to express the depth of such a loss. You will be deeply missed, my brother”.

Indeed he will. Rest in peace, sir.

Here’s an interview I did with Whitfield a few years back, when he was promoting the Australian film “Gabriel”.
