I’ve now a wee bit to do with this film franchise – in my other guise; Moviehole is me moonlighting as a crime-fighter, protecting the innocent against bad movies – so I’ve been aware of this casting for a while now – it’s been ‘done’ for a while – but I understand why Lionsgate held the announcement off. The studio have only now confirmed Julianne Moore (“Crazy, Stupid Love”, “What Maisie Knew”) as President Coin in the upcoming “Hunger Games : Mockingjay” to the masses because of the raves she’s winning on test-screening score sheets for her performance in the upcoming “Carrie” remake. Apparently the versatile Ms Moore is an absolute knockout in the upcoming horror remake, playing Chloe Moretz’s psychotic mother, and it’s a turn that’ll have young gals and guys immediately signing up to the Julianne Moore fanclub. Jumping from prospective hit “Carrie” – or at least something that’s bound to be popular with the younger audience – to the final two instalments of “The Hunger Games” franchise (penned by Clint’s friend and friend of the ‘Hole, Danny Strong) is the perfect move for Moore. Though well-known to older audiences, and particularly the more esteemed markets, she’s not exactly a known commodity amongst teens and tweens. 2013 or 2014 might finally be the year we get Julianne Moore on the cover of Cleo.

Lionsgate announced today that four-time Academy Award® nominee Julianne Moore (BOOGIE NIGHTS, THE HOURS, THE END OF THE AFFAIR and FAR FROM HEAVEN) has joined the cast of THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PARTS 1 & 2 as President Alma Coin, the leader of the rebellion against the Capitol. Moore will star opposite Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth in the third and fourth installments of the global blockbuster HUNGER GAMES franchise, slated for release in November 2014 and November 2015, respectively. She will join new cast members including Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson and Evan Ross. In addition to her four Oscar-nominated roles, Moore has previously starred in CRAZY STUPID LOVE, THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT, CHILDREN OF MEN and last year’s HBO political drama film GAME CHANGE, which netted her an Emmy®, Golden Globe® and SAG Award®. She will next be seen in DON JON, SEVENTH SON and CARRIE. Moore is represented by CAA and Management 360.
