Canadian Rambler – 25/1/06

Um, yeah, Colin’s still on the Poems

With Colin Moore

Weaponed

20 years back
it’s hard to believe
“Lethal Weapon”‘s first joint venture
bob and weaved
made a killing in the day.
shitstorm hail
on a heroin trail
better believe it…
“Go Spit,” makes me misty eyed to say

A cop on the edge
gee, oh what a surprise
though the payoff came when Riggs’ eyes bugged wide
went over the top in a Beethoven coiff
sprinting bare-chested down Hollywood Blvd.
or wherever it was
Gary Busey’s mental rehab threat
wasn’t far away
Mr. Joshua, crazy mother
scaring old ladies with his dental plan
now someone tell me
how’d a rabbit become a man?

The action scenes were chili beans
Pasadena-hot light a torch under the theatre’s red plush cushion
from what I recall
kudos Donner, kudos et. al.
remember the bullet through the milk carton?
that was original
death by moo juice
gross but refreshing
I’ll bet it was soy if you’re guessing
and a packed house wondered what Riggs was going to jump off next

And Glover, brother…what can I say?
the Witness man-killer
turned lovable square
half gazelle
half black bear
a family man with a back rash to quit
his creedo said it all
“I’m too old for this shit.”
you gave good surrogate family
though Riggs made it truly nuclear
had a three square feeder
care of Leave it to Beaver
shed the beachfront trailer trash mystique
long enough to feel the love
and that’s beautiful

God I miss that film
and if not the film, the type
Last Bipolar Hero with authentic acting bite
thank the maker Arnold didn’t give it his “End of Days” flavor
wallowing in forced misery that holds like scotch-taped rebar
nowhere close to Mel
able to cradle the sullen with a smile
make you think it’s safe to take a breath
then all the while
sucker punch you

And now…I’m moved
you can’t see, but I’m moved
it’s been a time since a film
has approved on this scale

I mean…look….
Mel’s roadside comments?
Dan’s demotion to “Saw”
“16 Blocks” with the way Moss Def talks
just can’t say it all
I don’t know
it’s not where you end, but where you’ve been
I think
should a century rose wilt for seconds of stink?
not a chance
not a chance
not in my book
no way
cause everytime I press play
the bad things go away
and the magic is back.
