The remake of “Escape to Witch Mountain” nabs “Watchmen” star
Carla Gugino, who has gone from fired “Spin City” co-star (the producers wanted to see Michael J.Fox’s character without a long-term girlfriend; more fun to have a bachelor, ya know?) to the huge big-screen star of such flicks as “Sin City”, “Spy Kids” and the upcoming “Watchmen”, has snagged another plum role for herself (well, potentially). The actress will join The Rock and Dakota Fanning for Disney’s remake of “Escape to Witch Mountain”.
Titled “Race to Witch Mountain”, it’ll see Gugino play a discredited astrophysicist and UFO expert who meets up with a Las Vegas cab driver (Johnson). He asks for her extraterrestrial expertise to help a pair of psychic siblings escape the clutches of evil men and save the human race from impending doom.
Director/Actor Garry Marshall (“Pretty Woman”, “The Princess Diaries”) plays a government and UFO conspiracy theorist/fringe scientist who helps them in their quest.
