Clint’s Bits – 1/10/09

Empire Online has a new still of Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables”.

– Twentieth Century Fox in Australia has pushed “Jennifer’s Body” (originally set to open, well, now) back to December 10.

– John Cassini (“Get Carter”, “Paycheck”) has been cast opposite Val Kilmer in the psychological thriller ”Mr. Nobody”. The pic, which begins shooting Sept 29 in Vancouver, also features Dylan Neal and Paul Mcgillion.

– Wonder if there’s any truth to rumours Miley Cyrus will have a role in the “Sex and the City” sequel? Guess we’ll find out soon enough…

– Josh Brolin has replaced Sean Penn in Universal Pictures’ “Cartel,” the Asger Leth-directed drama that is now on track to begin production in January in Mexico City. In the Peter Craig-scripted drama, Brolin will play a man on a mission to protect his son after his wife is brutally murdered in the gritty world of Mexican cartels. Hillary Seitz (“Eagle Eye”) is rewriting. (Variety)

– Josie Bissett reprised her role as Jane Andrews on “Melrose Place” (yeah, the new, slightly-shittier version) this week. And though it looked like Jane might be sticking around, she’s apparently not. Bissett tells Michael Ausiello that she hasn’t been asked back. ”I’m kind of in the dark. It’s like, okay. What happened to all that stuff Jane said she was going to do? But that’s typical Melrose. Jane will be back. I just don’t know how or when.”

– For those fans that missed them (And I’m guessing that’s none!) here’s the new banner posters for “The Twilight Saga : New Moon”. Took a whole day for my Batman undies to dry after first viewing these puppies.

– Reiko Aylesworth (“24″) has booked a recurring role on ”Damages”, Michael Ausiello reports.

Cinema Blend has a look at the artwork and a synopsis for the forthcoming direct-to-DVD sequel to “The Marine”.

– Of the forthcoming “Ghostbusters 3”, Harold Ramis tells MovieWeb, “We definitely are introducing new Ghostbusters. That much is for sure. And there will be inter-dimensional creatures visiting New York. And we will deal with it. That’s all I am allowed to say at this point.”

– Jamie ‘Gold Digger’ Foxx is joining Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis for the road-trip comedy, “Due Date”.

– Hugh ‘turn your bloody phone off’ Jackman is in talks to star in Shawn ‘The Pink Panther’ Levy’s “Real Steel” for DreamWorks. Pic is a Rocky-esque tale of a fighter who has to reinvent himself when human boxing becomes obsolete, replaced by 2000 pound human-like robots. Jackman is negotiating to play the ex-fighter, who becomes a Robot Boxing promoter, but whose chances of success are hampered by his access to sub-standard robot parts. That is until he discovers a discarded robot that always seems to win. The ex-fighter has also discovered he’s the father of a 13-year old son, and they bond as the robot brawls its way toward the top. (Variety)

– “Hey, Hey : The Reunion” rated it’s decrepit-old bloomers off last night! The series thumped “MasterChef”, garnering 2.1 million viewers. Think it’s pretty clear the show will be back in a permanent timeslot next year.

– J.J. Abrams’s new adventure/action series has triggered a bidding war at several networks – ABC, NBC and CBS. The show centers on spies who are also married. (Variety)

– Scripter Roger Avary, who won an Oscar for “Pulp Fiction,” has been sentenced to a year in jail for causing a fatal traffic crash in Southern California. This will likely affect “Silent Hill 2”, which he’s writing. (Variety)

– Uma Thurman will star in “Ceremony,” a Max Winkler-directed comedy produced and financed by Nala Films. Michael Angarano (“The Forbidden Kingdom”) is set to play a young man who falls for an older woman (Thurman) who is about to get married. (Variety)

– “Friends” & “Joey” alum Matt LeBlanc will play himself in a new sitcom titled “Episodes,” a co-production of Showtime and the BBC that will air simultaneously on both nets. The show, which “Friends” EP David Crane is behind, centers on a British couple whose U.K. laffer is turned into a dumbed-down American sitcom starring LeBlanc (playing a version of himself). (Variety)

Film Recommendation of the Day

Center Stage (2000) – Director Nicholas Hytner’s ode to hip-ballet (yes, there’s such a thing!) has evolved into somewhat of a cult hit over the years. Starring a horde of real-life dancers – who, surprisingly enough, can actually act! – including hottie Amanda Schull, the pic fixes on a group of 12 teenagers from various backgrounds who enroll at the American Ballet Academy in New York to make it as ballet dancers and each one deals with the problems and stress of training and getting ahead in the world of dance. Schull plays the ‘shining star’ Jody, while screen vet Peter Gallagher (TVs “The OC”, “Summer Lovers”) is aptly cast as the Ballet School’s Head-Honcho. Soundtrack ain’t half bad either!
