Competing Chariots of Fire sequels in the works!?

Hot on the heels of the previously-announced “The Last Race”, THR has word on a competing sequel to 1981’s “Chariots of Fire”.

“Absolute Surrender”, a $20 million dollar indie that’ll fix on how Scottish Christian runner Eric Lidell returned to China after the Olympics to follow in his parents footsteps, is currently in the writing stages. Eric Eichinger and Howard Klausner are penning the script.

This project, which Liddell’s daughter Maureen Liddell Moore calls “a gift”, would tell of how the runner sporadically raced in China but ultimately ended up dying as a prisoner of war in 1945.

The late athlete’s daughter is seemingly much fonder of this new project than she is of “The Last Race”, which is set to star Joseph Fiennes as her father.

“If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all”, she said.
