The Lion King

Jon Favreau’s fleshy transfer of the animated 90s hit was previewed at D23.

The clip screened was a moment from the ‘Circle of Life’ number, showcasing the great visual effects work that’s been employed to bring photorealistic animals to life. Simba and Rafiki apparently look brilliant.

While a rumour is doing the rounds that Hugh Jackman has been recruited to voice Scar, Disney didn’t announce or confirm the actor’s involvement today. Update: Disney has noted there’s “absolutely no truth” to the rumour of Jackman voicing Scar.

Mary Poppins Returns

The Emily Blunt starrer was previewed via a dazzling clip that showcased the film’s mighty heart, big-time dance numbers (one of which includes original ‘Poppins’ cast member Dick Van Dyke) and, of course, Blunt’s magical flying umbrella.

The clip has yet to find it’s way online but a motion poster featuring Blunt in character has.

Aladdin

Disney has announced the cast of the live-action “Aladdin”, most notably confirming Will Smith’s anointment as the Genie.

Mena Massoud (“Jack Ryan”) and Naomi Scott (“Power Rangers”) have scored the lead roles of Aladdin and Jasmine respectively, in the Guy Ritchie directed film.
