Dailies : Stand-ees, Pine’s Kronkite, Affleck buff, Showtime for Clarke

Cyclops, Mera, King take a Stand

James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young and Henry Zaga will take a, er, stand in the latest screen adaptation of Stephen King yarn “The Stand”. The eternal struggle of good and evil, masked in a bleak apocalyptic casing, this version of the Randall Flag-story is being prepped for air on CBS All Access. King is right behind the new version, even crafting a new ending for the mini-series!

Captain Kirk to pause for news from Dallas

“Star Trek” star Chris Pine is attached to play the legendary Walter Kronkite in “Newsflash”, Ben Jacoby’s flick about that tragic, unforgettable day in 1963 when JFK was taken from the world. Interestingly enough, Seth Rogen was initially attached to play the newsman – but when David Gordon Green departed the project for Haddonfield, Rogen also took a hike. Mike Ruffalo is also onboard the pic.

Get ’em off, Ben..Ana..!

“Fatal Attraction” and “Indecent Proposal” helmer Adrian Lyne is making somewhat of a comeback, signing to direct Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas in a saucy new adaption of Patricia Highsmith’s ”Deep Water”. The flick, housed at Disney/Fox, fixes on an attractive young married couple whose mind games with each other take a twisted turn when people around them start turning up dead. The couple staves off divorce in a loveless marriage by allowing each to take lovers, but it becomes messy as Highsmith exposed the surface facade of American suburban life. Expect clothes to be optional here, Ben, Ana.

From Pet Sematary to the Penalty Box

Versatile Aussie actor Jason Clarke (“Pet Sematary”, “First Man”) will star in a sports drama for HBO and “Big Short” helmer Adam McKay. Titled “Showtime” (hmmm… that title is gonna change, I can just feel it), the pilot is described as “a fast-break series chronicling the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties — a team that defined its era, both on and off the court.” Clarke takes on real-life NBA legend Jerry West.
