Del Toro’s Scary Stories, Pacific Rim 2 inching forward

Guillermo Del Toro

It’s a greenlight for a couple of Guillermo del Toro projects this week.

The big guy’s CBS Films Project, “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark”, based on Alvin Schwartz’s story, is moving forward with Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman tapped to script.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film -inspired by short stories based on folklore and legend – might also end up hosting del Toro as it’s director.

“I have had such a great time working with the Hagemans on Trollhunters — and they have proven to be such brilliant writers — that the fit for this material was just perfect: they grew up with the books, they love the genre and they are smart and emotional when writing characters,” says del Toro, who’ll produce alongside Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel and Elizabeth Grave.

Meanwhile, in a surprise move (considering it’s reportedly on indefinite pause), Deadline reports the sequel to Del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” is pushing forward — though without it’s original helmer wearing the director’s cap. That honor has been bestowed to “Spartacus” and “Daredevil” alum Steven S. DeKnight. No release date yet.
