Johnny Depp is set as Whitey Bulger in “Black Mass”, the Scott Cooper-directed biopic of the Boston crime figure turned fugitive, says Deadline.
Depp had been circling the picture for a year or two – even when Barry Levinson (‘”Rainman”) was onboard to direct – with the deal made official at Berlin.
Tom Hardy is in talks to play FBI agent John Connolly, who is in prison for tipping off his childhood pal that he was about to indicted.
Production begins in May.
