Oh, poor Diane Lane.
Put on the spot last week when asked a simple but ostensibly double-barred question about (her forthcoming film) “Justice League”, the iconic actress offered up a swift response that, unfortunately, sent those stapled to their keyboards into a Mcflurry.
The actress, reprising her “Man of Steel” and “Batman vs. Superman” role of Martha Kent in the abovesaid DC superhero tentpole, was asked a two part question – whether she can offer up any spoilers on the film and does she think it’ll be a better film than Marvel’s “The Avengers”.
The actress answered “No, and no. Short but honest, I hate to disappoint.”
The “Unfaithful” and “Streets of Fire” star was clearly referring to the first part of the question (that she can’t divulge anything) but naturally some quickly raced to Twitter to declare that Lane was declaring her film would be no match for “The Avengers”.
Lane’s rep has since issued a response stating Lane wasn’t shi**ting on her current employer.
“Diane meant “sorry to disappoint” in reference to revealing anything concerning “Justice League” that is not already out in the public, and, was declining to comment on a film (Avengers) that she has not seen. She is thrilled to continue her role as Martha Kent, and appreciates your excitement for “Justice League”. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to clarify this.”
Lane is way too classy to ever slam one of her films, filmmakers or employing studios like that so her reps shouldn’t have had to issue a response to clear all that up but, considering how the interwebs work, probably good they did.
Lane’s “could actually be just as good as Avengers” film, “Justice League”, hits theaters in November.
