CONFIRMED : Chuck Norris demanded Expendables 2 be a PG-13 movie

UPDATE! : Sly Stallone responds to the rumours below over at Aint it Cool. The actor/filmmaker says ”Harry, the film is fantastic with Van Damme turning in an inspired performance… Our final battle is one for the ages. The PG13 rumor is true, but before your readers pass judgement, trust me when I say this film is LARGE in every way and delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible, BUT, fear not, this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry…Sly”.

Previously…

So there’s this rumour going ’round that Chuck Norris’s participation in “The Expendables 2” has resulted in the film being sadly designed with a PG-13 rating in mind. I haven’t been able to get anyone in his camp to comment on it, but I dare say the rating’s board won’t be taking their orders from Walker, Texas Ranger – even if the language and violence has been toned down.

Chuck, who returns to the big screen after a tardy absence in the Simon West directed blockbuster, apparently told the producers that he would only do the film if the movie was a squeaky-clean, kid-friendly action film. Much like this….

I find it hard to believe the Norris of such ass-kickeries as “Lone Wolf McQuade” and “Missing in Action” would shy away from a film because of it’s cussing or more violent sequences – after all, they’re the kind of movies that gave the martial-arts icon cum actor his name.

…But, unless someone has translated it wrong, these are Norris’s words to Polish site Gazeta (via ExpendablesPremiere):

In Expendables 2, there was a lot of vulgar dialogue in the screenplay. Fot this reason, many young people wouldn’t be able to watch this. But I don’t play in movies like this. Due to that I said I won’t be a part of that if the hardcore language is not ereased. Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be classified in the category of PG-13.

As much as I’d love to see Norris back on the big screen, I don’t think we need more of our action flicks to be of the watered-down “Live Free or Die Hard” variety. You?
