Never one to shy away from casting too big, George Clooney is looking at some rather stout names for his next directorial effort.
According to The Wrap, the “Ides of March” helmer wants Jean Dujardin (of “The Artist” fame), Cate Blanchett (“The Good German”) and Paul Giamatti (“The Ides of March”) to speak words in “The Monuments Men”, based on the book fixing on a series of grand heists – the goal being to thieve precious pieces of art – conducted by members of Adolf Hitler’s armies.
Though it’s not clear who Dujardin might play, the website does have details on whom the rest of the thesps will give life to :
Clooney plays George Stout, a U.S. Army officer and leading art conservationist, who repatriated tens of thousands of pieces of art from the Nazis.
The filmmakers are also understood to be interested in Cate Blanchett for the role of Rose Valland, an art historian and member of the French resistance, and in Paul Giamatti for the role of Lincoln Kirstein, who co-founded the New York City ballet with George Balanchine.
“The Monuments Men” will shoot in Germany, Austria, Paris and England next Spring.
