Eddie Murphy doing Beverly Hills Cop TV series

Though Brett Ratner insisits it’s still in the works, Eddie Murphy tells Rolling Stone that “Beverly Hills Cop 4” has been scrapped in favour of a TV series based on the Martin Brest flick.

“They’re not doing it. What I’m trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I’d do the pilot, show up here and there. None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong” says Murphy.

I have to agree with Murphy on one thing, those “Cop 4” scripts weren’t right. They just didn’t encompass the punch, let alone the laughs, of the original. What I don’t see working is a small-screen “Beverly Hills Cop” – without the violence, cursing, and predominatly, Murphy (well, for the most part; he said he’d pop up “here and there”). What do you guys think?
