Eddie Murphy returning to Saturday Night Live

Eddie Murphy is returning to “Saturday Night Live” for the first time in 30 years.

The actor, who cut his teeth on the hit sketch series from 1980 to 1984, tells TV One’s “News One Now” (via The Wrap) that he’ll be returning to his old stomping ground for the show’s 40th Anniversary Special.

“It’s just timing. It just never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it,” Murphy told Martin, when asked about his three-decade absence from the show. “Actually, they’re having a 40th anniversary thing in two weeks, I’m going to that. And that will be the first time that I’ve been back since I left.”

Murphy, who played such memorable characters as Gumby and Buckwheat on “SNL”, will be joined by a host of stars on the special – many of whom are expected to be surprises.
