Emily Brown Set to Star in American Gods as Laura Moon

The hugely-anticipated upcoming series on StarzAmerican Gods” continues to build its stellar cast by most recently adding Emily Browning, according to Collider. Browning has shown a wide range of diversity in her ever-growing career in films from the gangster biopic “Legend” to the fantasy adventure “A Series of Unfortunate Events”. And now by joining this Neil Gaiman adaptation, her popularity is definitely going to keep growing after the show airs.

Browning is set to play Laura Moon, although more details should be kept under wraps for now to avoid any unwanted giveaways for fans. The cast already includes Ian MacShane as Mr. Wednesday and Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon. Laura Moon is the wife of Whittle’s character, who is just getting ready to finish his stay in prison. But the central story of the bestseller novel surrounds mythology, American culture and society, and, of course, gods. There’s a heft of content in the book, so it seems perfect for a television adaptation at a place like Starz, which has more freedom for creativity and content than what cable network shows do.

Browning should be a great addition to the cast, and after her coming on-board there’s no telling who else might pop up before production begins. Not only could this please fans, but Gaiman also had a few words of praise for the rising star and her place in the series:

“I’ve been fascinated by Emily Browning since ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’. She has a challenge ahead of her: Laura is a tricky character, and the Laura on the screen is even trickier and more dangerous than the one on the page. She’s going to have a wonderful time bringing Laura to life.”

Considering Gaiman’s high stature in the literature world as well as his worldwide popularity, this should be a superb fantasy series that could easily rival some of the better shows of its kind. The showrunners of “American Gods”, Michael Green and Bryan Fuller, backed up the author’s statement:

“You don’t need a magical coin when you have Emily Browning. She brings a fascinating spark of life to every role she inhabits and we are tickled she will be lighting up Laura Moon and bringing her to life in more ways than one on American Gods.”

There’s no official air date for “American Gods” but we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
