Melbourne-band to be heard in “Hitman”

Melbourne band, Empire, was today announced as overall winner of the Hitman MySpace Killer Track competition and have won the opportunity to have their original song, “I’m Your Hitman” feature in the Australian theatrical release of the Hollywood movie, ”Hitman”, in cinemas on November 22.

This groundbreaking opportunity is a first for the Australian market.

“Thanks to ‘HITMAN’ for putting on a competition that promotes the very talented Australian music scene!” said Benni Knop, band member, Empire.

“We thought it would be a great opportunity and challenge to compare our writing ability with other Australian bands/musicians. We already had a song written which could have been a contender but after many talks and thoughts we decided to start again and create a fresh song specifically for the ‘Hitman’ movie. We wanted an upbeat, cinematic sound that had all the elements necessary for a Hollywood action/epic premiere film,” said Knop.

552 unsigned Aussie bands entered the competition; these were then short-listed to ten finalists by the directors of the Hitman movie. MySpace users were then invited to vote on their favourite track. The competition closed last week with close to 2000 votes and a staggering 25,714 profile views on the competition profile page www.myspace/hitmanmovie.

Empire will be flown to Sydney this weekend to have their track professionally recorded at the renowned Damien Gerard Sound Studio. As of today the track has also been uploaded onto the MySpace.com homepage, whilst the remaining finalists will be showcased as “featured artists” on the MySpace Music Channel homepage for a week.

Band members ’Daz’, ‘The Hux’, ‘Benni’ and ‘Stuie’ have been writing and playing together for over 3 years. Working together in projects such as Melbourne’s cover bands ’23 Past’ & ‘Bam Bam’, they cite their influences as bands such as Karnivool, RED, Linkin Park, Celldweller, Nickelback and Sevendust.

“Hitman” is an edgy new action thriller, starring Timothy Olyphant as the highly skilled assassin. Australian audiences will have a chance to hear the finished track when the film is released in cinemas across Australia on November 22.
