Fantastic Voyage remake to start filming in January

Another classic is set to get the Hollywood treatment, with 60s sci-fi film “The Fantastic Voyage” to get remade, with Guillermo del Toro at the helm. The 1966 sci-fi adventure reboot has been planned for some time, and The Omega Underground have the news that the production is aimed for January 2018, to be filmed in Toronto, Ontario.

The original synopsis reads as follows:

The brilliant scientist Jan Benes (Jean Del Val) develops a way to shrink humans, and other objects, for brief periods of time. Benes, who is working in communist Russia, is transported by the CIA to America but is attacked en route. In order to save the scientist, who has developed a blood clot in his brain, a team of Americans in a nuclear submarine is shrunk and injected into Benes’ body. They have a finite period of time to fix the clot and get out before the miniaturization wears off.
James Cameron was initially in talks to direct, but with a handful of “Avatar” sequels ahead, his time is limited. Instead, he is onboard to produce alongside Jon Landu. Thus far, no casting or release date details have been announced.
