And replaces him with a “Deadwood” star
Somewhere along the line Vin Diesel fucked up. He must’ve. Right? How can you explain being one of the world’s hottest new movie stars – not to mention the man tipped to be the next big cinematic action hero – and then suddenly drop to the bottom of the charts like a Toni Pearen track?
Personally, I think the bucks got in the way – as in, Diesel wanted too much to do what he does. On the other hand, I’d say it also has something to do with Diesel trying to escape an image he hadn’t yet fully created. OK, so he didn’t want to be known as a muscly action-hero forever, but it wouldn’t have hurt to have done one more “XXX” (which everyone seemed to love him in, including the studio) movie before he demanded ‘more’ from his career. But no, Mark Vincent seemingly broke away from the genre he was making a name for himself in, well, before he’d even got remotely comfortable. Kinda disappointing. Sly and Arnold took at least a decade before they decide to shake things up – soon learning that they were restricted in what they could do – the big guy really should’ve partook in a conference call with them, before passing on those sumly sequel pay-days.
Now, another blow for VD. According to Aint it Cool News, he has been pushed from a project he’s really been rooting for. “Hitman” was a project Diesel was psyched as hell about. Based on the video game of the same name, it was apparently something he’d been trying to develop for quite a while now – possibly as a franchise- and was getting closer and closer to becoming a reality. Now, Twentieth Century Fox has decided they’re going to go “a different way” and have dropped Diesel for Timothy Olyphant. The “Deadwood” star is FOX’s new ‘it boy’, it seems. He’s currently doing “Live Free or Die Hard” for Rupert’s troops.
The Skip Woods written film could be in theatres as early as next Fall. It fixes on a gun-for-hire Agent 47 (Olyphant) who is hired by a group known as “The Agency” to kill targets for cash.
Meanwhile, Diesel continues to try and push his “Hannibal the Conqueror” uphill.
