Frank Grillo headlines The Purge sequel

Frank Grillo will star in “The Next Chapter Of The Purge” for Universal and Blumhouse Productions, says Deadline.

The horror film is the sequel to “The Purge”, which opened in June and grossed about $90 million worldwide from a mere $3 million budget.

“The Grey” star will be directed by returning helmer James DeMonaco, who is also writing and producing.

While plot details are not yet known, it is expected that the world of the first film will be further explored. “The Purge” saw a security system designer, played by Ethan Hawke, fighting to protect his family during an annual 12 hour shut down of all emergency services. For those 12 hours each year, nothing, not even murder, is illegal.

Set for a June 20, 2014 release, the film is being produced by Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum, Sébastien K. Lemercier and Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.
