Final 13 episodes of Game of Thrones to be split into two!?

On the last corner before the debut of the sixth season, “Games of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B Weiss have suggested that the show mightn’t be far off wrapping.

In a chat with Variety, Benioff and Weiss say they’re considering the next batch of episodes – after this year’s sixth season – the last. In order to keep the momentum going as long as possible, they’d split up the episodes into two blocks of seven – seven for Season 7, seven for Season 8.

“I think we’re down to our final 13 episodes after this season”, said Benioff. “We’re heading into the final lap. That’s the guess, though nothing is yet set in stone, but that’s what we’re looking at.”

Because these final episodes are quite epic, Weiss said they can’t feasibly do ten episodes in a year anymore. “It’s crossing out of a television schedule into more of a mid-range movie schedule.”

HBO have yet to officially announce that seasons 7 and 8 will be the last, let alone split into two.

Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” goes into production in July.
