Greta Gerwig boards the long-gestating Barbie movie

“Arthur” actress Greta Gerwig and “Squid and the Whale” helmer Noah Baumbach will write the upcoming live-action “Barbie” movie. Margot Robbie is attached to star in and produce the movie via her LuckyChap banner.

The film, initially set up with Sony, is now housed at Warner Bros where Anne Hathaway and Amy Schumer had been briefly attached to star.

According to Deadline, the logline for “Barbie” while at Sony was that she gets kicked out of Barbieland because she’s not perfect enough. She then goes on an adventure in the real world, and by the time she returns to Barbieland to save it, she has gained the realization that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside, and that the key to happiness is belief in oneself, free of the obligation to adhere to some unattainable standard of perfection. It’s unknown if Warner are keeping the same plot.
