Just days after Disney announced Jon Favreau’s anointment as director of a live-action “Lion King” movie, the house of mouse outs Guy Ritchie as the man to bring a human-led “Aladdin” to the big screen.
Per THR, Disney is planning “an ambitious and non-traditional take on Aladdin” based on the 1992 animated classic. Dan Lin (“Sherlock Holmes”) is producing, with John August (“Frankenweenie”) on script duties.
The film won’t, of course, feature a Robin Williams reprise as ‘The Genie’ but many of the musical elements from the original film are said to be in the new script.
Surprisingly, Disney are happy for Ritchie to make the film in that traditional and unique non-linear style of his.
