J.K. Rowling’s ‘Harry Potter’ spinoff is set to hit the big screen three times.
Warner Bros will release “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” as a trilogy, with “three megamovies” planed, reports The New York Times.
The Times profiled Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara, who persuaded Rowling to continue the Harry Potter franchise, adapting her 2001 novel “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” into a feature.
“When I say he made ‘Fantastic Beasts’ happen, it isn’t P.R.-speak but the literal truth,” said Rowling about Tsujihara. “We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone call and then I got out the rough draft that I’d thought was going to be an interesting bit of memorabilia for my kids and started rewriting!”
“Fantastic Beasts”, set initially in New York about seven decades before the time of Harry Potter, will follow a magizoologist by the name of Newt Scamander. The film will not be a prequel or sequel, it serve as an extension of the wizarding world and will not directly relate to Harry Potter’s story.
