Has the Ark been found?

Possible “Indiana Jones 4” plot details

I’ve been reading a few interesting things about Indiana Jones 4 over the past couple of days – largely some rumours that link it directly with “Raiders of the Lost Ark”.

Here’s a summary of what Aint it Cool said the film could be about :

– Indy again goes after the Ark of the Covenant.
– Marion Ravenwood is in it.
– Abner Ravenwood, thought dead in his pursuit of the Ark, is alive.
– The warehouse at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark is actually in Area 51. The Russians are trying to find it.

Having not watched the first few for a few years now – I grew up in the “Temple of Doom” era so I’ve probably seen that more times than I’ve cut my toe nails – I decieed to revisit it last night. Wow. What a film that is. For the early 80s, that’s a very accomplished movie – I dare say, because of its practical effects, that it works much better than most of today’s computer-generated blockbusters. Having met Harrison Ford last year and finding him to be the complete opposite to Indy – he’s shy, he’s nervous and he likes snakes – I also have a new appreciation for the character that Ford invented because, for all intents and purposes, he did invent him; there’s nothing Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones. But I digress, yeah, there’s so much possibility to tie the new film into this one… they did leave a few things hanging… and thank god they did.

On the other hand, this may be completely wrong – and I may have revisited “Raiders of the Lost Ark” for no reason other than to give my unborn child his first ‘sound’ of movie greatness. The Movie Scorecard was on the set of the film and says, “okay, now for my big news. When I was on the Yale campus taking my pictures and videos a guy came over to watch beside me for a few minutes and we started talking. There were a few conferences going on in some of the Yale buildings and this guy [let’s call him Ben for simplicities sake] had a conference name tag on. Well, Ben told me that he was in one of the buildings that they were filming in called Harkness Hall. Knowing that Paramount was indeed filming in Harkness I asked him if he’s seen anything and he told me he went into THEE room they had been filming in and saw stuff written on a chalkboard. Now, I argued that it was probably a regular classroom and the writing meant nothing, but Ben insisted this room was usually locked down, he had watched actors/crew going in it and he was only in it for 30 seconds when two production crew members yelled for him to get the f#$k out.
Remembering that Jones uses a chalkboard in Raiders to describe the Staff of Ra I asked Ben to describe what was on that chalkboard. Ben swears there were Chinese symbols and a list of Chinese dynasties. Chinese symbols…dynasties??? I said “how do you know it wasn’t Japanese of Korean?” and Ben mentioned he had studied some Chinese history in school so he knows Chinese. Anyway, he said the Han Dynasty was listed because he recognized the name Han Wu – an Emperor of China back in the day.
Now I began to get a bit tingly at this point because I had a hunch where this Chinese reference was leading. You see I did some research and most of the Han dynasty Emperors are buried in the Maoling Mausoleum in the city of Xi’an in central China. Xi’an is famous for three things:
1. Maoling Mausoleum
2. Terracotta Warriors [Qin’s Army]
3. Great White Pyramid
Feel free to google the hell out of the Great White Pyramid, but the skinny is that a WWII pilot in 1945 spotted a pyramid in the mountains southwest of Xi’an that was bigger [yes bigger] than the Great Pyramid at Giza. This pilot described it as being a perfectly shaped pyramid on a mountain with a large white jewel at the top. He circled it a few times snapping some photos. These photos were classified top secret by the U.S. Air Force and hidden away. Oh, and the mysterious Great White Pyramid has never been officially found leaving some to believe it’s purely a myth.
With Indy 4 being portrayed in the year 1957, filming occurring in Hawaii [jungles/mountains] soon, Chinese symbols written on a chalkboard, the U.S. government [possibly] being involved and Abner Ravenwood alive [who used to live in Nepal next to China] my gut tells me Indy is going to find the Great White Pyramid and whatever the hell’s inside it.”

Whatever the storyline, I’ve got everything crossed that its good – don’t let Indiana Jones be raped by the guy that gave it to Vader from behind. That, I’m sure you’ll agree, was almost unforgiveable.

On a side note, a couple of sites are mentioning that Shia LaBeouf may have signed to appear in ‘further’ “Indiana Jones” movies after this one. Interesting. Now would he be young Indiana – as in ‘the son of Indiana’? or will we see a series of ‘Cornetto Jones’ movies – or whatever the heck his character’s called in the new movie?
