His Mortal Instruments movie could be back on

Sony and Constantin film have done the shoulder boom, looking to ink a deal to co-finance the feature adaptation of the “His Mortal Instruments” series.

The flick, which Harold Zwart (“The Karate Kid”) is attached to direct, was originally on Sony’s to-do list but subsidiary Screen Gems pulled the plug – namely due to financial concerns. Constantin put the deal back together, helping warm Sony’s cold-feet by pouring liquid dollars on them.

Lily Collins (“Mirror Mirror”, “Abduction”) has scribbled on the dotted line to play the female lead.

Deadline, who broke the news of the Sony/Constantin deal, add :

The series starts with The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, set in contemporary New York City, where Clary, a seemingly ordinary teenager, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Jessica Postigo and I. Marlene King wrote the script for the flick, which is penciled in to begin filming in Toronto in June.

I’m sure the success of another book-cum-film “The Hunger Games” helped convince Sony and Constantin this was worth another look, too.
