In Short : Gran Turismo, Marvel’s Damage Control, Coldest City, Madiba, Downsizing

“Red” scribes Jon and Erich Hoeber are penning the film adaptation of the racing video game franchise “Gran Turismo” at Sony Pictures. “TRON Legacy” helmer Joseph Kosinski is directing.

Meantime, “John Wick” co-director David Leitch – who recently dropped out of co-helming the sequel- is set to direct spy thriller “The Coldest City” starring Charlize Theron.
The Focus Features production, penned by Kurt Johnstad, is about a spy in the late ’80s dealing with an underground MI6 officer being murdered.

Laurence Fishburne will play Nelson Mandela in the BET Networks six-hour mini-series “Madiba”.. The drama will fix on Mandela’s younger years as he deals with political unrest during 1960’s South Africa. Kevin Hooks helms the project.

Alexander Payne has signed with Paramount on his next directorial effort, “Downsizing”. The studio will produce and distribute the Matt Damon/Reese Witherspoon starrer. “Alexander will once again bring to audiences a uniquely original film, one that showcases his tremendous skill as a storyteller. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with him again,” said Brad Grey, chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures.

ABC has ordered a half-hour comedy from ‘Daily Show’ alum Ben Karlin and Marvel Television called “Marvel’s Damage Control”. The show “centers on the overworked and underpaid cleanup crew of the Marvel Universe. Their specialty is dealing with the aftermath of the unique fallout from superhero conflicts, like returning lost ray guns to their rightful owners, rescheduling a wedding venue after it has been vaporized in a battle or even tracking down a missing prize African parrot that’s been turned to stone or goo. Sometimes the most important heroes are the ones behind the scenes.”
