Is Downey Jr joining Cruise for the Tropic Thunder spin-off?

A few months back it was reported that Tom Cruise and his Top Gun : Maverick writer/Mission : Impossible- Dead Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie were looking at resurrecting his grotesque but hilarious Tropic Thunder character Les Grossman for a new movie or series.

Robert Downey Jr was asked by ExtraTV this week whether he’d be interested in joining Cruise for the project, reprising his role from the 2008 film Kirk Lazarus.

“Look, all I’ll say is this, Tom Cruise and I have not done a project yet together. And that’s kind of a yes, and then we’ll figure out what the title is.”
