Jacki Weaver snags her first Hollywood role!

Universal have snagged veteran Aussie actress Jacki Weaver, fresh off her Oscar nomination for “Animal Kingdom”, to join the cast of “Five Year Engagement” the Judd Apatow  produced comedy starring and co-written by Jason Segel.

It’s quite a coup for Weaver who, up until “Animal Kingdom”, was an only occasionally-employed local artist whose best roles would’ve seemed to be behind her. But after her amazing turn in the David Michod directed thriller, the world’s emerged as the actresses oyster.

The comedy, penned by “How I Met Your Mother” star Segel and frequent collaborator Nick Stoller (who also directs), is about a couple (Segel and Emily Blunt) who finally inch towards the altar after a lengthy engagement. According to Deadline, who broke the news of Weaver’s signing, “Scream 4” star Alison Brie, former “OC” star Chris Pratt and Rhys Ifans (“Notting Hill”) co-star.

Congrats Jacki!
