Jackman off Soderbergh musical

Either because of a scheduling conflict, or the sheer fact that his name pretty much meant nothing at the box office last year, Hugh Jackman is no longer the front runner to star in Steven Soderbergh’s 3/D Live-action musical “Cleo”, the trades reported this morning.

Jackman was expected to co-star with Catherine Zeta Jones in the ambitious sing-song feature.

The “Chigcao” star was to play Cleopatra and Soderbergh wanted new Oscar host Jackman to play her lover, the Roman general Marc Antony. Ray Winstone (“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”) had been asked to play Julius Caesar.

Variety says Jackman is blaming scheduling conflicts on his exit, despite not having anything on his plate this year besides the already-completed “Wolverine” pic.
