Jai Courtney cast as Kyle Reese in Terminator : Genesis

‘Every time I look in the mirror, I see Michael Biehn…’

erm, well…

Australia’s Jai Courtney, last seen dodging Russian gunfire in the atrocious “A Good Day to Die Hard”, will play time-traveling lover-boy Kyle Reese in Paramount’s “Terminator : Genesis”.

Though a number of actors tested for the role of Reese – the character played by Michael Biehn in the 1984 original – it came down to Courtney and “The Host” actor Boyd Holbrook.

Courtney joins fellow Australian Jason Clarke (“Zero Dark Thirty”) , “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke, and headline-act Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Alan Taylor-directed feature.

While plot details haven’t leaked, one scenario currently doing the rounds has Schwarzenegger playing a humanoid. With the movie said to involve alternate timelines and, of course, time-travel, this latest rumour isn’t too hard to swallow : A theory doing the rounds is that the Austrian hitmaker will be playing a friend and devoted protector to the Connor family in the ’40s and ’50s who inspires the machines to develop a cyborg in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination. Whether that’s true or not… guess we’ll find out in 2015 when the new film hits theaters.

Courtney’s other credits include TVs “Spartacus”, “Animal Kingdom”, “Jack Reacher” and the upcoming “Divergent”.

“Terminator : Genesis”, written by Laeta Kalodgridis and Patrick Lussier, is said to be the first chapter in a new trilogy of “Terminator” pictures.
