Jean-Claude Van Damme confirmed for Expendables 2 villain?

Phoebe on deck.

The guys at VanDammeFan dropped us an email to let us know Jean-Claude Van Damme is a lock to play the villain in “The Expendables 2”.

Sheldon Lettich, a close friend of Van Damme’s and frequent collaborator, confirmed Van Damme’s new ‘bad guy’ role in a post earlier today.

“He said he’s going to be in “The Expendables 2,” playing a villain”,

And he’d know. It seems. Lettich, IMDB tells me, wrote Van Damme’s “Bloodsport” (I’m a woman- am I supposed to know these things? No!) – one of his earlier, younger-day efforts. He’s also done a few other things with JC.

My friend Mr. Google tells me Van Damme has long been rumored for a role in the sequel – having been asked to appear in the first film – but this is the first kind of solid indication that a TimeCop versus Demoltion Man face-off is coming to fruition (and yes, I have seen both “TimeCop” and “Demolition Man”). Oh and apparently Bruce Willis is reprising his shady CIA agent role for the sequel too. Stallone will be the star again but he’s too busy – plucking bullets from his abdomen?- to direct this time.
